My mom celebrated her 60th birthday with us Sunday.
The cake was made by Bailey and Maranda.
I was drugged on pain meds and tired. I came out of bed for a few minutes to celebrate in the occasion. I am wearing soft cast after surgery on Friday.
Bailey knew the cup song from Glee Club and Maranda picked up on it really quickly
6/29/13 Bailey and Maranda did the cup song for the primary talent show. If you are wondering what the song is. click on link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cmSbXsFE3l8
Getting ready to perform...cup in hand.
performance
we had a video error and somehow it got clicked off before they started...ooops :(
kids hanged out upstairs watching TV. Their favorite shows they watched were Psych marathons. There are 95 episodes on netfix. They probably watched them all.
We had a great second day but at the end of the day...keep reading....
Maranda found how fun it is to boogie board the waves. She was pretty scared about going into the water after watching Jaws movie a few weeks before. We didn't tell he there had been a shark attack on Galveston a few weeks previously. (article on bottom). We didn't want to scare her because really it was more dangerous to drive to Galveston than get in the water.
I have had a foot injury since December that has not allowed me to run. I wanted to play a game with the kids and I remembered playing Sharks and Minnows on the beach before and having fun. We started playing and I just took the risk of running, which I hadn't done in 6 months. We were having fun and a short time later my mom was a shark and she was chasing me. She was right behind me and it felt like someone kicked me hard in my calf. I went down hard. I was in a lot of pain and I even accused my mom of kicking me. She said she didn't. Well it turned out she didn't. I ruptured my Achilles Tendon. I could not walk. It was an awful journey back to camp, showering, etc. We came home the next day as planned. On Monday I called the foot doctor I had been seeing for my Sesmoiditis. He was out of the office till Wed. On Wednesday he said surgery is the fix for my injury (my internet research prepared me for that answer). On June 28th I had my Achilles Tendon repaired. I was sent home in a soft cast. Monday I had a hard cast put on and we counted 17 staples on the back of my ankle area. After the cast I go into a boot. I also have to go to physical therapy. It is the same foot as my Sesmoiditis. I am hoping that staying off my foot for this long will heal all my injuries and I will be restored to health. I told Bryant a few weeks before that if the Lord wants me to stay off my foot for my sesmoiditis he is going to have to put me in a cast. As a mother I am on my feet all day long. I cook, clean, run errands, work as nurse, take care of kids....all on my feet. This has stopped me in my tracks. I am so grateful my mom is here till the July 6th. What a blessing she is here to help out for a week after the surgery.
In the evening we got ready for dinner. I sat. The kids fed the seagulls. Played spoons. Played Frisbee and capture the flag with some of the other kids camping. Maranda and Bailey cooked our rice. It was a boxed package but was soooo spicy we could barly eat it. We can all handle our heat....that is how hot it was!

Bryant found these great nets for a couple dollars getting ice. They caught minnows with their nets.

Bennett buried Brady in the sand
Before the injury:)
flew a kite.
the kite in the air
I could not walk after the injury. I was right by the water. They brought me a chair and some Ice that was already in our small ice chest.
kids had a sand fight after I was out of the game.
– After no shark attacks in Texas in 2012, the first shark attack in Texas in 2013 occurred yesterday in Surfside, Texas. A 15 year old boy was in waist high water when a shark bit his leg, with type of shark still being unknown at this point. The brave teenager was able to tear the shark off his leg, and in the process received lacerations on his hand. He was rushed to the hospital in Houston via helicopter, and we are awaiting an update on his condition. One of the potential reasons for more sharks in Surfside, TX, may be the fact that there are more fisherman in the area as of late, and due to the weather. It is recommended not to swim or surf near fisherman as there may be an increased levels of sharks present due to the bait.
Garrett Sebesta was released from the hospital
The EMT onsite said: “I hope this teenager grows up to be a cop and gets my back,” EMT Zuandra Monnat told KTRK. “He fought off this shark. It bit his leg and he literally tore this shark off of him and that’s how he got the lacerations to his hands.”
“They’ve had shark attacks on the county beach and in Freeport, but here in Surfside, this is the first one in 25, 30 years,” Surfside Assistant Police Chief Gregg Bisso said.
